Where to stay in Victoria Wes

Self Catering Guest House

You have visited the North -, South -, East - and West Coast and you have experienced the Bushveld in all his glory. You heard about the Karoo and the honest and unpretentious beauty but you are afraid to make it your next holiday destination. You do not know what to expect and what you will have to sacrifice if you dare stay longer than that one night when you are on your way to the Cape.

Be brave! Make it two nights this time.

Karoonag is situated on the slopes of Moonlight Hill in Victoria West and offers a panoramic view over the village and environment. It is a lovely restored Victorian house built in the late 1800. It has been occupied by many people of high standing in the Victoria West community but the most famous occupant probably was the well loved Springbok rugby player, Mannetjies Roux who also got his nickname "Mannetjie" in the house.

Why are we where we are now?

The Moonlight Hill walking trail starts right behind the house and leads to the Victoria West nature resorts that contain the Riverine Rabbit. It offers a 180 degree view of the Karoo and the Victoria West dam with breathtaking sunset views!

The Riverine Rabbit (Bunolagus monticularis - Lepus m.) is an endangered species. Its habitat is dense riverine scrub along the seasonal rivers of the central Karoo Desert. Between 1948 and 1979 none were spotted, and were assumed to be extinct. Most of its habitat has been destroyed by agriculture.
